Objectives

  • This course is designed to introduce participants to the role that intelligence plays in contemporary national security. It will explore the nature of contemporary threats by focusing on what constitutes a threat in the 21st century
  • It will investigate the tough choices policy-makers are forced to make daily, given that threats, responses, and intelligence are rarely crystal-clear, necessitating a set of very high-stakes decisions by national leaders.

  • The course will also offer participants, in a small seminar setting, an opportunity to engage in an intensive week of critical discussion and thinking on key aspects of the modern practice of intelligence and security. It will explore the Nigerian and international perspective.
  • It will draw out an appreciation of both the practitioner and academic/public policy perspectives on contemporary intelligence issues
  • Revitalising clandestine collection of human intelligence and enhancing the cadre of intelligence analysts
